Don't Let Imposter Syndrome Get You. Use Alice's Mindset Strategy Instead
Yusef: Beth is wondering about the use of PLR; she feels that some people have an imposter syndrome by using content created by someone else, and she wonders how to get over that?
Alice: Yeah, I can understand that. You're thinking why you feel like that. If you're selling a course, you're doing something that you should do. You have to remember that you're a business owner. And you can't be everything to everyone. I know, for me when I first started, PLR didn't really exist, but I thought I had to answer all my emails. I also had that forum, and at first, I didn't enlist and try to encourage my community members to be more involved. I like that they were involved, but I was more purposeful about it later, like when I had people doing moderating the community for me.
I thought I had to do everything myself and that there was a real expectation for my audience. I thought because I answered everything and they thought they could message me anywhere and that I would help them. I had to learn to understand that I could not be everything to everyone. I am trying to create something that is useful to them, but, I will bring in different people and different pieces of content to fulfill that need.
And you can think of PLR as just bringing in different people. It's people on your team; it just happens to be done-for-you content. It's already done, you don't have to instruct anyone on how to make it for you.
And every other business does this, right? We go to the store, you go to Walmart, you go to the grocery store. They're all selling other people's products, but hopefully they're doing some research making sure the quality is there and making sure that it's useful for their customers. Otherwise their reputation goes bad. So it's the same thing.
You are going to use useful content, you're going to purchase quality content. And for me, looking at how I use it. I rarely use something just out-of-the-box and then I put it out there. It usually gets incorporated into a course or something else.
But I do use PLR a lot; for example, if I'm going to do a course on something, I would come up with the outline. When there's certain details or steps that need to be done, or a bullet point list of ideas, I'll often use PLR to do that.
I'll read through it, just to make sure it fits with what I'm talking about, but it still saves me tons of time because it's already there. But I am the frame for everything I guess; my vision and what message I want my business to send. I make sure that all the content I use fits that vision.
